Why Asok Is a Great Base for Exchange

The Asok-Sukhumvit intersection is one of Bangkok's main transportation hubs, where the BTS Skytrain (Asok station) meets the MRT subway (Sukhumvit station). The surrounding area, particularly Sukhumvit Soi 3 through Soi 21, is packed with hotels, restaurants, and services catering to international travelers.

The good news is that several excellent exchange shops are within walking distance, so you do not necessarily need to travel all the way to Rajdamri for the best rates. For a citywide comparison of how Asok-area shops stack up, see our complete Bangkok exchange rate guide.

Top Exchange Shops Near Asok

1. Vasu Exchange -- Sukhumvit Soi 7/1 The undisputed king of Sukhumvit exchange. Vasu consistently offers rates that are within 0.1-0.2% of SuperRich. It is a 10-minute walk from Asok BTS or a 5-minute walk from Nana BTS. Open Monday to Saturday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Closed Sundays.

2. K79 Exchange -- Sukhumvit Soi 3 A reliable exchange shop near Nana BTS with competitive rates. Slightly less competitive than Vasu but more convenient if you are staying in the Soi 3 area.

Tips for Exchanging in the Sukhumvit Area

Bring your passport. All legitimate exchange shops require passport identification. A photocopy is usually not accepted.

Visit during business hours. Most exchange shops close by 6 PM. Weekend hours may be reduced.

Check rates before queuing. Vasu displays current rates on a board outside. If the rate does not look competitive, check K79 or consider taking the BTS to SuperRich. Our honest SuperRich analysis breaks down exactly when the trip from Asok is worth it.

Larger amounts get better service. While the posted rate applies to all transactions, some shops may offer a slightly better rate for very large exchanges (5,000 USD+). It never hurts to politely ask.

Avoid street money changers. Anyone offering to exchange money on the street is likely running a scam. Always use established shops with clear signage and proper licensing.
